Week Twelve

Lecture

the Video at the start of the lecture was quite a wake up call in regards to the safety of your personal information, thankfully I keep my my space information as anonymous as possible and my name that is used is “The Bear”. Though I must remember to remove my date of berth from my my space.
As an avid Internet gamer most of the information was known to me in some form or another, though I personally believe that .zip files are safer because of the ability to see every individual file and scan them all to ferret out spy ware and key loggers. The link to the spy ware removers was good though and I intend to use them on my laptop as I've probably got some on it as it is running a bit slower than it should be. Though for most of the lecture it seamed like a re iteration of the plagiarism talks but practice makes perfect as they say.

Week Eleven

Lecture

The terms Data, Information & Knowledge where the topic for Today's lecture and it was by far the most valuable one so far for me, especially the last six or so slides. Though I wish I had them at the start of the course instead of nearing the end but this seams to be a trend with all of the UPC subjects. The revision quiz at the beginning was also a good thing to participate in as I realised that I had forgotten what a Boolean search was. (Using words like, +, and, or) And this made me aware of the fact that I must start revision for the final exams ASAP.

Week Ten

Lecture

Never come across the terms Atom based and Bit based being used to describe information before and while there is an issue of the security of Bit based information, which is causing the large Music piracy, and is one that I am all to familiar with from my various endeavours of on-line posting of original artwork and ideas. I also realised that my form of Bit based information is as bad as the Atom based process that I have, Fragmented and only occasionally Which explains why my laptops desktop is always A mess with .PSD files and icons a plenty. The strange thing is that I know nearly all of the organisation tools and strategies for Bit based I just can not get around to implementing them.

week Nine

Lecture

Today's lecture was an informative one as I had never given though to ICT outside MSN and X-Fire (Messaging program for inter game communication) and it was quite an eye opening experience. The visual pun around the fourth slide with the pentagram was also very humorous. And while I use most of the form of ICT in my daily life I never really though of the in some of the terms presented today such as, Synchronous or Asynchronous. And the explanation of pros and cons for each type of ICT was also quite nice. Though for all the cons I try and be as inactive on most ICT sites as I can and while I have a my space and such I tend to pale in comparison of usage compared to some that I know who can have entire conversations over My space as if it was an IM program.

Week Eight

Lecture

Top 10 tips of Presentations

1.Don't read word for word off of a power point.
2.Not having it cluttered by things such as excessive graphics.
3.Having the spelling and grammar correct and relevant to your audience.
4.Engage with those you are speaking to by being an active speaker.
5.Speak clearly and with an engaging tone. (Not going about it in a mono toned voice)
6.choosing the right colours for the presentation layout.
7.Reframe form having excessive bullet points.
8.The KISS rule (Keep It Simple Stupid)
9.Practice before you do it and don't assume u can wing it on the day.
10.Don't become dependant on MS Power point for your speech, Mix it up a little.

The Video of Don McMillan's was extremely funny as well as having valid points in it, which is a very effective way to get your point across. The lecture its self dealt with all the ins and outs of power point usage for speeches and though the facts and figures where a nice piece of information to have it was all just revision for me. Having done country week Debating for 3 years most of it was skills and tips I already know but practice makes perfect they say.

Week Seven

Lecture

Today's lecture was a great help to me in creating references by using End Note, and though I had been told of its existence prior to today I had not given it any thought to use it. And from what I have seen today I now intend to make use of it on a frequent basis. Its ability to integrate with programs like MS Word also seem handy but it was recommended that it be used as a standalone program in the lecture but I think I will attempt to use it with word in order to stream line the process of referencing. Though as good as endnote is I cant help but feel that I should learn to reference without it as well as with it as I do not have it on my laptop and I do not wish to become dependent on one piece of technology to do my referencing for me.

Week Six

Lecture

Quite an informative lecture today as it dealt with the issue of quality and reliable information on the www. Things such as how to find a sites, accuracy, Objectivity, Authority, and many others that will allow you to eliminate misinformation and invalid claims from more reliable information. I also have never used such things as the smiler pages on Google when searching for information so I intend to have a look at it, Maybe it could help narrow down the shotgun approach I take to finding things that are not of a UNI related nature, though I do use the Cached option in Google so I don't know if the two can be used together. Also must remember to start work on the group assignment soon as the last thing I want is to leave it to the very last minute.
